ACCOMPLISHMENTS

These are just of a few of the things of which I can count as accomplishments.

Latest Accomplishments

Our study of Positive Behavior Supports has moved to another level. We are now studying at the Tier 2 level. We have divided our original PBS Team into Tiers 1 and 2. The Tier 2 Team is leading us through the development of more in-depth strategies to deal with students that need extra time managing their behavior.

In the summer of 2013, CES was recognized at the Bronze Level of performance at the Positive Behavior Supports Summer Institute. This was the first year we were eligible for this distinction. We received a 100% rating on our SET Evaluation. After the 2013-14 school year, our school was honored with the Silver Distinction from DESE. Again, this award was bestowed after the first year of eligibility.

In the Summer of 2012 our PBS Team was selected to present PLC & PBS: Integration at Work at the Summer PBS Institute. The presentation highlighted the ways that the PLC and PBS programs at our school worked together to achieve academic and behavioral success. We repeated a similar presentation at the 2013 Powerful Learning Conference.

Beginning with the 2012-13 school year, our daily schedule was reorganized to allow common planning time for each grade level team. Also, planning time was aligned to allow grade levels to have the collaborate together. Bi-monthly data meetings were also initiated during this school year.

After a year of study and preparation, the Title I program at CES was converted from a Targeted Assisstance Program to a School Wide Program. With this change, our school was able to supply more efficient and effective supplemental instruction and intervention services to all of our students.

In the Spring of 2013, our staff completed a book study on A Repair Kit for Grading: 15 Fixes for Broken Grades  by Ken O'Connor. As a result, the Leadership Team, the Grades Team and the rest of the staff made significant adjustments to our grading procedures. Presently, our Four Year Old Preschool, Kindergarten and First Grade use a standards based approach for progress reporting. In the future, we will add the second grade to that list. Our Specials staff has created standards, skills and common assessments for the second grade for Art, Music, Character Education and Physical Education. Grades three though six will be incorporating the use of standards in ELA and Math classes.

Shortly after our study of the  Professional Learning Community, we began developing Essential Learning Outcomes for Communication Arts. This led to the development of common assessments for those standards. Since then, we created the same for Math. Beginning in 2013, we revamped our ELOs for English Language Arts to incorporate the Missouri Learning Standards.  This process was completed in the Spring of 2014. The 2014-15 school year was targeted for updating of Math ELOs.
